This beginning to intermediate 3 CE home study course discusses the common comorbidities with substance use disorders. The course covers topics such as the connection between substance use disorders and mental illness, contributing factors for comorbidity between substance use disorders and mental illness, some approaches to diagnosis, treatment options for comorbid substance use disorders and mental health conditions, and physical comorbidities with substance use disorders. The CE discusses the contributions the connection between substance use disorders and HIV and common barriers to comprehensive treatment for individuals with co-occurring disorders.
