Course Description

This 3 CE home study course is designed for mental health professionals and
healthcare professionals interested in learning about the sex and gender differences
in substance use. This workshop will explain the unique needs and challenges
women face when dealing with substance use and abuse. Topics will include how
marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamines, ecstasy, and other drugs affect men and
women differently, and sex and gender differences in substance use disorder
treatment. This workshop will also briefly discuss co-occurring mental health
disorder and other sex and gender issues women face such as domestic violence.

Learning Objectives

Describe sex and gender differences in substance use.
Discuss how marijuana, cocaine, and other drugs affect women and men differently.
Explain the impact of drug use on pregnant and breast-feeding women.
Describe the sex and gender differences in substance use disorder treatment.
Discuss co-occurring mental health disorders in women.
