Dr. David M. Cordosi is a licensed clinical psychologist with more than two decades of experience in police and public safety psychology, correctional mental health, and clinical assessment. He recently retired as Chief Psychologist of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Office of Peace Officer Selection, where from 2016 to 2025 he directed the statewide Psychological Screening Program responsible for pre-employment peace officer evaluations of candidates seeking sworn positions with CDCR. In that role he oversaw the hiring, training, and supervision of program psychologists and contracted evaluation agencies across California, directed statewide psychological testing operations, developed program policies in accordance with POST and California peace officer selection standards, and represented the department in dispute resolution and State Personnel Board appeal hearings.
Dr. Cordosi first joined CDCR's Office of Peace Officer Selection in 2014 as a screening psychologist, conducting POST pre-employment psychological evaluations—administering clinical interviews, interpreting psychological test data, authoring reports, and providing written and oral defenses to resolve disputes—before being promoted to Chief Psychologist in 2016. Earlier in his career, he served for seven years as a clinical psychologist at CDCR's Mule Creek State Prison, where he held hospital privileges as a member of the Organized Medical Staff and provided evaluation, treatment, and crisis intervention across emergency, inpatient crisis, and administrative segregation settings.
Alongside his public-sector career, Dr. Cordosi maintains a private practice in the Sacramento region, where he continues to perform pre-employment psychological evaluations and compensation and pension evaluations for veterans. He earned his Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in Fresno and a post-doctoral Master of Science in Clinical Psychopharmacology from Alliant International University. He has also served as a faculty member and interim training director at California State University, Sacramento, and taught graduate and undergraduate psychology courses at National University.
